Progressive Action Endorses Duluth City Council CandidatesFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – August 8, 2009 In the screening, Progressive Action asked candidates about a wide variety of issues, including how they view the Council’s role in the school district’s Red Plan controversy, the future of the Lakewalk extension, and how they think Councilors can help grow jobs in Duluth. Progressive Action members reviewed the candidates’ written responses and voted on the endorsements. “One issue we asked candidates about is their position on protecting Duluth’s most valued assets during these challenging financial times,” Progressive Action President Barb Olsen commented, "such as the Park Point recreation land the city sold. Many candidates said that although we must protect core services like fire and police, we must also work to protect those assets we can never get back again once we let them go.” Progressive Action will host a forum for all City Council candidates on September 9, from 5:30 – 7:00 p.m. in the Duluth City Council Chambers in City Hall. The forum is free and open to the public.
