More than 250 people marched through downtown Duluth, Minnesota on Sunday, March 18, calling on Congress to stop funding the war in Iraq and bring the troops home now.
Several speakers addressed the crowd, including Iraqi-American Dr. Sabah Alwan, who described the damage that has been done to Iraq, and Duluth City Councilor Russ Stewart, who spoke about the anti-war resolution he recently championed to a successful vote in the Council. Peace activist Michelle Naar-Obed, who has been to Iraq four times with the Catholic Peace Team organization, talked about the Iraq war supplemental spending bill before Congress.
The march and rally was sponsored by the Northland Anti-War Coalition and endorsed by Progressive Action, Duluth Area Green Party, Socialist Action, Veterans for Peace, Grandmothers for Peace, UMD Students for Peace, UWS Students Against War, and Northland College NAWC.
